Curriculum

The goal of our Yorba Linda Private Christian Academy’s curriculum is that each child will achieve the highest spiritual and academic life.

The ministry of the Christian schools is to lead students to Christ and teach them Bible truths, Christian character, and traditional subject matter. Our philosophy for each subject matter is outlined below along with our learning goals for each grade level.

BIBLE

We believe the Bible to be the inerrant authority in which God reveals Himself and our need for Him.

We seek to understand scripture to gain knowledge of God and His truth.

If we allow scripture to do His work we will be changed in all facets of our lives as we encounter the living God.

2 Tim 3:16; Ps 119; Deut.8:3; Acts 20:27

MATHEMATICS

We believe the study of math reveals and reflects an orderliness and rationality that derives from the mind of God.

By building concept upon concept, students at our Yorba Linda Private Christian Academy develop critical thinking skills that can connect abstract concepts with tangible realities.

The purpose of studying math is to develop a framework for understanding and solving real world problems.

1 Cor. 14:33, Isaiah 28:10, Genesis 41:33-36

LANGUAGE ARTS

We believe just as math reveals God’s mind in the physical universe, words are the language God uses to reveal himself most directly in scripture.

Reading is foundational to receive God’s revelation since every story reflects the one true story of redemption.

All human thoughts expressed in words should be critically evaluated through the use of reason in accordance with God’s truth.

We should be able to effectively communicate God’s truth in meaningful words that express His love and grace.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We believe that God exists as a community (the trinity) and has created us for community as He tells His story through our collective lives.

We derive a sense of identity by understanding the culture and history of our own people and those of other nations while our primary identity is in being citizens of God’s kingdom.

By studying Social Sciences we gain an appreciation for the needs of others and our responsibility as God’s people to meet those needs.

Acts 17:26-27; Dan. 4:17; Romans 13:1

SCIENCE

We believe science is the study of God’s creation which He entrusted to us which we humbly pursue with an understanding of our limited perspective.

We progress in understanding the truth found in creation by critically evaluating evidence and drawing conclusions while acknowledging we can never attain perfect knowledge.

With the knowledge we gain we seek to care for and benefit from God’s creation in worship of Him.

Ps 8, 19; Gen 1:28; Heb 11:3

TECHNOLOGY

Embracing new technology is an important part of Calvary Chapel of Yorba Linda’s Private Christian Academy curriculum.

We believe technology is the medium of communication in the modern world.

We believe that technology enhances the creative process giving students a range of communication styles to more meaningfully engage with as broad a variety of people as possible.

Using the practical applications of technology equips students to have a greater impact in and on society, redeeming their world according to God’s design.

Therefore our students should be proficient in their use of a broad variety of applications.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Provides students with the opportunity to glorify God through physical skills, team effort, and self-discipline in challenging situation.

Teaches students to respect their bodies as temples of God thereby better enabling then to avoid overindulgence and maintain better overall physical fitness.

Reveals strengths and weaknesses and provides an opportunity for self -improvement.

Develops character and a sense of sportsmanship that puts honoring God over winning at any cost.

Col 3:23; I Cor 3:16; I Cor 9:24-27

FINE ARTS

Our Yorba Linda Private Christian Academy curriculum promotes learning to use the individual gifts God has given us, we learn to work together as a collective group for His glory.

We believe music, drama, and art are gifts from God to be used to praise Him and reflect His perfect creation of us.

Through learning the art of expression and continually striving towards perfection in our artistry, we are able to work towards each of our potential.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Language is the primary expression of culture and in turn, culture reflects what we worship and value.

We celebrate a variety of cultural expressions by which we promote unity in the body of Christ.

Learning a foreign language develops and shows a respect for the perspectives of others, and so fulfills the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.

The Great Commission tells us to make disciples of all nations; therefore, an appreciation and understanding of other cultures is essential to accomplishing that task.

Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 28:19; Acts 17:26-27
